A joint operation by the Lotteries and Gaming Board and local police launched on December 31 has intensified efforts to combat unlicensed gambling devices in Beitbridge and its surrounding areas. These illegal machines, commonly found in business hubs, have sparked community concerns due to their accessibility, particularly to minors under 18.

So far, the crackdown has resulted in the confiscation of 75 unlicensed gaming devices and the arrest of 16 individuals linked to these unauthorized activities. Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to upholding gaming regulations and ensuring that gambling remains a lawful and controlled activity in the region.

A Focus on Protecting the Community

The operation follows mounting complaints from residents about the detrimental effects of gambling on local communities, especially its impact on children. Authorities have stressed that targeting unlicensed operators is critical to shielding vulnerable groups and reinforcing legal compliance.

« This initiative underscores our dedication to safeguarding public well-being while maintaining the integrity of regulated gambling, » said a spokesperson from the Lotteries and Gaming Board.

A Long-Term Campaign

The enforcement campaign will continue indefinitely, reflecting a zero-tolerance approach to illegal gambling. Authorities are determined to curb the spread of unregulated gaming in Beitbridge, citing the risks it poses to social and economic stability.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspected illegal gambling operations as part of the broader effort to protect the community and uphold the rule of law.
